I took this portrait of McCarthy at his home in Virginia. Earlier, McCarthy told me that the view of his lawn and lake gave him a sense of peace, so, I had him look out the window to capture that mood. I felt honored photographing the Senator. In 1968, he was the first U.S. Senator to run for the presidency on a peace platform.
