This portrait is an example of how you can have a great plan but it completely goes awry! During the break on my shoot with Bette, she went to the window to grab a smoke. The beautiful way she looked in the natural light made me tell the assistant to shut down the strobes. This shot turned out to be the most powerful. My motto in photography became, "I always have a plan, but I always plan to be surprised." Bette told me that this was one of her all time favorite portraits.
